Featured Travel Photography Blogger: Daniel Nahabedian

The fifth travel photography blogger in this blog series is Daniel Nahabedian, the person behind the excellent photography website Canvas of Light.

I love that name. Photography literally means “drawing with light” in Greek – it is a combination of the Greek words “photos” and “graphe”, respectively meaning “light” and “representation by means of lines”. A name for a photography website could not be more appropriate.

Daniel himself is an interesting guy as well, being raised in the United Arab Emirates and now living in Granada, Spain. He’s from Armenian, Lebanese and French descent and he speaks no less than five (!) languages. His travels have taken him to 17 countries so far and he has lived in 5 of those for more than a year.

The turning point in his life happened during his walking of the legendary Camino de Santiago in Spain. That was when he decided to try and become a full-time photographer.

Daniel is now a professional freelance travel photographer, specializing in travel, cultures and landscapes. Additionally, he’s a photography teacher who focuses on group classes as well as on private lessons about the basics of modern photography and post-processing.

Besides the name of his website, I also really like Daniel’s philosophy. On Canvas of Light, you can discover snapshots and glimpses from traditions and cultures from all corners of the world. There are no images of misery and destruction, for example. Daniel says that “there’s enough of that in our media and it doesn’t really contribute to our understanding each other. Instead, it digs a wider gap between the viewer and foreign cultures.”

Canvas of Light is where you’ll find tons of photography tips, beautiful photos and fascinating cultural insights.

Let’s take a look at twelve of Daniel’s favorite photos!
