Spectacular Slovenia – A Photo Essay

After a handful of blog posts (see below), I think I’ve made it clear that I’m quite fond of Slovenia.

We spent a week in that gloriously diverse southeastern European country last summer and were totally overwhelmed by what it has to offer. Hopefully, the selection of Slovenia photos in this photo essay will inspire you to visit this extraordinary nation.

From Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps to the quaint capital city of Ljubljana to the sun-drenched Adriatic Sea coast in Slovenian Istria, Slovenia is a country where you can go hiking (or, in winter, skiing) in the morning, have lunch in one of Europe’s most livable capitals cities and soak up some Mediterranean sunshine in the afternoon, finishing off the day with a delicious seafood dinner.

There aren’t many countries of a similarly small size that pack this much variety, all within easy driving distance from one another.

As I mentioned in the first paragraph, I’ve dedicated a number of blog posts to specific destination in Slovenia—here’s an overview:

One Week in Slovenia – Where to Go & What to Do
Slovenian Food – 7 Dishes That You Have to Try
Ljubljana in 20 Photos
8 Highlights of Bohinj
Piran – A Pretty Stop on the Adriatic Coast

As I’ve obviously already used a lot of words describing my experiences in Slovenia, in this post, I’ll let my favorite thirty-three Slovenia photos do the talking.

  • So beautiful! Definitely adding Slovenia to my list.

  • My husband and I first came to Slovenia in 2010. We were supposed to stay one day in Ljubljana; one hour after arriving we decided to stretch our staying longer because one day just wasn’t enough.
Since then, we came to Slovenia at least once a year and we found our favourite location in Bohinj.
Every time we experience new gourgeous places but Studor and Stara Fužina are for us the place to stay, to return to, to fully enjoy.
The connection we immediately felt for Slovenia is hard to explain. It’s the land our hearts long to. Since we first came, we discovered the true meaning of the word melancholy. Leaving is always heart-breaking and thinking about Slovenia is always reassuring and a bit painful at the same time.

  • Thank you for so beautiful photos of our place. I’m so happy to live here, in Bohinj 🙂
Only a tiny remark: “Cat’s eye view of Stara fužina Bohinj” should be “Cat’s eye view of Srednja vas, Bohinj”

Will be taking our third trip to Slovenija in August. My husband’s grandparents immigrated from there to USA in the early 1900s. Our son moved there 5 years ago, hence our visits. It’s as beautiful, pristine and serene as photos show. Can’t wait for the family gathering there in thus summer! Mlp
