My touring bike has finally arrived! I have taken it for a spin twice – I had been looking forward to that for a long time – and it’s a great bicycle. I love it.
Unfortunately it started snowing a couple of days ago and that made it impossible to go on the road.
So I’m back on my training bike for a few days, which is getting quite boring by the way. It’s not that much fun spending most of an afternoon on a bike inside the house, watching TV or DVDs. The feeling afterwards is always great though!
This Saturday I’m going to buy all necessary clothing. Hopefully the snow will have disappeared by then and I can get on the road again. One week later I’m taking a day off of work. That’s when I wanted to do a first serious test, and check how far and how long I can manage to stay on the bike comfortably.
The next three weeks will be all about intensifying my training and getting into 100km-a-day shape. I want to hit that target before February 18, which is when I’m flying to the States for three weeks. Of course I will make sure to stay in shape during my stay there, either by running or biking. However, during spring break I’m going to do absolutely nothing and soak up some sun. I don’t know where that’s going to be though, but I will let you know!
On March 15 I’m hitting the ground in Belgium again. From then on I have exactly two weeks to get fully prepared, as I plan to start cycling on Friday March 29. This will include a couple of multiple-day trips to get the hang of it and test all my equipment.
But that’s more than two months from now. Let’s not get ahead of things. In the meantime there will be some more posts with updates!
