There’s a difference between a national park entrance pass and a reservation. The pass does allow access to all areas in Glacier National Park, while the advance reservations are for a specific area. I agree that it’s a bit complicated to plan a visit if you need a separate reservation for each area, but at this point, that’s the only way they can effectively manage visitation in each area. I wouldn’t call it a money grab, though. These systems have become a necessity in certain parks/areas to limit visitation and protect resources. A reservation only costs $2, which are “administrative costs.” (It does, in fact, costs money to run a reservation system on a website.) The NPS certainly isn’t making a huge profit of off this. I’d also like to point out that this reservation system is only for a particularly busy period and still allows you to enter the park early in the morning and in the afternoon without an advance reservation.
