I’ve been to Bearfence Mountain at least half a dozen times and the top is bare rock. You are right that the hike up there is in the woods, but after the rock scramble to the summit, you’re well above the trees below. That image shows perfectly what the summit is like. I think it’s a phenomenal place to watch the sunset and sunrise. Bearfence mountain? Author either been there 25 years ago, or created the story from nothing. The top does has 360 degrees view, but you are surrounded by trees, I don’t know where he took picture for that place. Just skip it!for sunset/sunrise.
