Featured Outdoor Diversity Organization: The Venture Out Project
Along with several other national parks bloggers, podcasters and content creators, during the month of June, we will feature the work of The Venture Out Project, an amazing organization that strives to offer “trans and queer participants the opportunity to experience the outdoors in a safe, supportive and environmentally conscious way.”
This monthly feature is part of our community effort to showcase organizations who are working towards social justice and more inclusive public lands.
About The Venture Out Project
Established in 2014 by Perry Cohen, The Venture Out Project was one of the first guiding companies run by and for queer and transgender people. They are currently based out of both New England and the Pacific Northwest.
The mission of The Venture Out Project is to provide a safe and fun space for queer, trans and LGBTQ+ people to experience the outdoors, as well as providing education and support that helps schools and organizations affirm their LGBTQ+ members.
This is further underscored by their commitment to environmental stewardship, social justice, diversity and inclusion.
Their various programs include overnight wilderness and backpacking trips for queer and transgender youth, adults and families.
The Venture Out Project also organizes queer day hikes, summer camps, trans-inclusivity workshops for educators and adventure professionals, and events for allies and family members of the LGBTQ+ community.
