Best National Park Podcasts

Besides national park books and documentaries, our modern technology-based world offers a few other ways to enjoy and learn about the national parks.

National park blogs like the one you’re reading now are excellent examples. However, if you’re looking for something else than written content, you can also listen to some awesome national park podcasts.

Personally, I listen to podcasts all the time and in lots of different places, from my home office to the gym, in bed and in the car.

Several times a week, I catch up on the latest national park news, listen to adventure stories, learn about wildlife conservation,… on my favorite national park podcasts.

These are the four best podcasts about national parks to listen to in 2020. Between them, there’s plenty of new weekly content to keep you informed about all things national parks. It’s a great way to stay connected with the parks at home.

Everybody’s National Parks

The Everybody’s National Parks podcast is probably my favorite podcast about the national parks right now. Dedicated to family adventures, it offers tons of information, tips and trip reports about numerous parks.

In addition to the easy-to-listen-to trip reports, there’s also more in-depth content, such as interviews with experts, rangers, documentary makers, and so on.

This amazing podcast strikes the perfect balance between fun and “lightweight” content and more serious topics like history and conservation.

National Parks Traveler Podcast

An independent, non-profit media organization dedicated to America’s national parks, National Parks Traveler is my personal go-to resource for news about the parks. The news section on their website is excellent and has new articles basically every day.

I also really like their podcast, which offers in-depth content related to national park news. This is not a podcast to listen to for fun stories or entertaining tales of adventure, but it’s arguably the best national park podcast for news updates and background information.

Most episodes cover quite of lot of ground and pack huge amounts of information. They’re typically between 45 and 60 minutes long.

Gaze At the National Parks

A couple of avid hikers, Dustin Ballard and Michael Ryan, go on memorable adventures in national parks all across America.

Most Gaze At the National Parks podcast episodes are about hiking, zooming in on a particular park through its trails. Other episodes touch on different aspects related to the parks, from rules and regulations to the history of nature conservation.

All episodes are relatively short and easily digestible, from 20 minutes up to 1 hour in length.

A third podcast about national parks worth checking out is the America’s National Parks Podcast. This L.L. Bean-sponsored podcast distinguishes itself from the other national park podcasts featured here by its weekly story-based episodes.

Each episode has a powerful narrative, which is told like a story, and is always chock-full with facts and info.

It’s a great concept and I always look forward to the next episode.

What I like most about these four podcasts about national parks is that each is a little bit different. From amazing story-telling and trip reports to news updates and in-depth background information, they complement one another amazingly.

As the national parks fan I know you are, you’ll now have a bunch of new weekly episodes to listen to.
