Based in the Central Coast, Get Out Stay Out/Vamos Afuera is a grassroots non-profit that focuses on Indigenous Migrant Youth populations and their relationship with the outdoors.

By facilitating culturally appropriate outdoor programming, Get Out Stay Out aims to connect youth populations in their community to the natural environment, providing them with tools and education to build self-confidence, leadership and community skills.

The organization is committed to increasing diversity and representation in outdoor spaces for people of color, especially for Indigenous migrant youth populations.

Founder

Founder of Get Out Stay Out, Karen Ramos was born and raised in the Santa Maria Valley. She is the daughter of two migrant farm workers and grew up spending time outdoors camping with her family.

Karen’s Indigenous background and love for the outdoors inspired her to found Get Out Stay Out to give the youth she identifies with the opportunities to experience and benefit from the great outdoors. You can read more about the team behind Get Out Stay Out by visiting their website here.
