Hoh Rain Forest Scheduled to Reopen by May 9
Since a winter storm caused serious damage to the Upper Hoh Road on December 20, 2024, the popular Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park has been closed to the public, including vehicle, bicycle, and foot traffic.
Due to funding issues, repairing the road had been delayed for months until mid-April, when construction finally began.
Now, Jefferson County Public Works, which is responsible for the maintenance of the road, has said it “will complete repairs on the Upper Hoh Road at milepost 9.8 in early May.”
During and after the repairs are finished, the road will remain temporarily closed while Olympic National Park completes other road and facility repairs at the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center. “The area will reopen when rangers can maintain restrooms, treat water, remove waste and debris, and provide visitor and emergency services,” the park’s website says.
As things stand now, the Upper Hoh Road and the Olympic National Park gate are scheduled to reopen by May 9, once again welcoming visitors to the “quietest place in America.”
