Wouldn’t you love to have a job as a nurse where the majority of people you saw on a daily basis were healthy? Well, it could put you out of a job, but then on the other hand, it could also give you even better work to do with simple annual physicals and other routine tasks that don’t put you in the face of death day after day.

Actually, that’s a Utopian dream because there will always be sick people, even if some places in the United States are healthier than others. If you are in the process of submitting a nurse résumé and would like to work somewhere where the population is a bit healthier than the norm, try these five healthiest US places to live, and of course, work.

1. Highlands Ranch, CO

Located only about 15 miles to the south of Denver, you would be surprised at this town’s claim to fame! Believe it or not, Highlands Ranch, Colorado, has the lowest rate of obese people in the entire nation. Added to that is the fact that residents are also very health conscious and routinely get out and exercise. Perhaps you might get more ankle sprains and muscle sprains because of this, but you would almost assuredly get fewer cases of heart disease and diabetes type 2. What a great place to submit a nursing résumé!

2. Woodbury, MN

Speaking of obesity and heart disease, when seeking careers in nursing you could always apply to work in a place like Woodbury, Minnesota. As a suburb of St. Paul, Woodbury’s claim to fame is having the lowest rate of heart disease of anywhere in the nation. That’s pretty amazing and unless you were a cardiac nurse, this would be a great place to submit your résumé skills!

3. Quincy, MA

Then there is diabetes we mentioned above. Quincy, Massachusetts boasts the lowest diabetes death rate in the country, just like Woodbury, Minnesota, boasts the low lowest rate of heart disease. Being a part of what is considered to be Metropolitan Boston, that’s a pretty nice way to be recognized when so many metro areas around the country are known for crime and disease. Wouldn’t it be nice to be an RN there?

4. Koolaupoko, HI

Okay, so what needs to be said to lure anyone to ‘want’ to live in Hawaii where the weather is near perfect all year long and the tropical scenery is amongst the loveliest on earth? As the place in the United States that lays claim to the lowest rate of cancer related deaths, it sure would be nice to practice nursing in Koolaupoko, Hawaii. Who wouldn’t enjoy days off in a hammock enjoying the warm and refreshing tropical breeze?

5. Greenwich, CT

So what makes Greenwich, Connecticut so healthy? No, they can’t lay claim to low cancer, heart and diabetic deaths, and they aren’t among contenders for low rates of obesity. However, to a nurse, this is a virtual paradise when seeking to submit a nursing résumé. There are an amazingly high number of hospitals all within the small 15 mile radius. Looking for a job? Here it’s always a matter of ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.’ With that many hospitals in the vicinity, how can you not get a job?
