Sites at Haleakalā’s Hosmer Grove Campground Can Now Be Reserved in Advance

Starting on June 1, 2021, visitors will be able to reserve a campsite at Hosmer Grove in Haleakalā National Park in advance. The campground used to be first come, first served, but reservations are now required—to be made online in advance.

According to a press release from the National Park Service, the new Hosmer Grove Campground reservations system “addresses public requests for a reservation system at park campgrounds.”

While visitors previously had to grab a site on the spot when they got there, they are now able to plan their trip better. The system ensures that they will have a place to stay in Haleakalā National Park, with a reservation.

Hosmer Grove Campground Information

This is a very small campground with only 6 individual campsites. All sites are non-electric, but they do have a picnic table and fire pit with a grill. The campground has vault toilets and a water station. There are no showers.

The Hosmer Grove Campground is the starting point of the wonderful Hosmer Grove Trail, which runs through native shrublands and a non-native woodland. This is an amazing place to see Hawaiian honeycreepers, which are found nowhere else on the planet.

Additionally, this is the only car campground in the park’s Summit District. It’s the best, and only, place to stay in the area, offering access to Summit hiking trails and other popular attractions.
